For Choruses
Steps to follow in assisting a prospective scholarship candidate
Each year many deserving music candidates look to our Association for Scholarship assistance. The following "steps" are offered as suggestions for your involvement with any prospective candidate. (Tom Rayner, AMCA Scholarship Chair, 22 Oct 99)
- Each chorus will receive from the Scholarship Chair, in early November, three Application Forms and Chorus Sponsorship Forms. These will be sent to the Chorus Contact as listed in the AMCA Directory. Please become familiar with the contents and Eligibility Requirements outlined in the Application form.
- Let this service of our Association be known in your location and actively seek appropriate prospective candidates.
- Once contacted by a candidate for sponsorship, meet with this person to learn about his/her interests in music studies. Please make sure that the candidate will be enrolled in an Undergraduate Music program (preference to Vocal programs) in the forthcoming year.
- Invite the candidate to perform for your Chorus or as part of one of your Concerts.
- The Chorus must then decide whether to offer their sponsorship to the candidate.
- If accepted by the Chorus, offer to assist the candidate with the completion of the application, making sure that all requested documents are available.
- Remind the candidate to mail the completed application (and related documents) so that they reach the Scholarship Chair (in Canada) by March 1st.
- The Chorus completes and mails the Chorus Sponsorship Form directly to the Scholarship Chair on or before March 1st.
Thanks, Tom Rayner, Chair, Scholarship Committee
